Why can't I break blocks in minecraft?

So I was playing single player, and my game crashed, which happens kinda often. But this time, when I restart the game, my world isn't there. So I make a copy of my world (cuz it will still in my "save" file) and move the copy to my desktop and delete the file in my "save" folder. Then, I create a new world with the same exact name as my old world, then replace the copy of my world in that new world's save folder. Luckily, this works and all my stuff and the entire world is back. But, now I find out that I can't break or place blocks anymore, but when I open to LAN and go to gamemode 1, I can still break and place them (but not gamemode 2).

I'm very confused and frustrated, so if someone could help me, that'd be greatly appreciated.

Gamemode 2 is "Adventure mode" you can't break or place blocks, this mode is generally used for custom adventure maps.Go into gamemode 0

Ahh. I think I know your problem. So you're telling me that you can break blocks in survival and creative mode but not adventure mode right?

Survival mode is just the Minecraft as everybody knows it and this is probably the mode you want to be changing to.

Creative is the mode in which you have unlimited blocks and resources to build everything in your imagination. You also have the ability to fly.

Adventure mode is the same as survival only you don't have the ability to destroy any blocks without the correct tool. Which means, the game limits some of the gameplay in Minecraft. For example, player can't destroy a wood without an axe or a player can't destroy a sand block without a shovel.

So if you want to destroy them, you need to have the proper tools in gamemode 2. Usually it's for hardcore players. Read here to see what tools needed to destroy which blocks if you really really want to play on Adventure mode, or else, go to survival or creative:-
