Why can't I break blocks in my MP server at spawn in Minecraft?

It doesn't matter that you are the host you have to use the console to op yourself
do this:
/op username
where username would be your username.
you must do the /op command in the console not in game btw

Maybe spawn protection is on.
Check the console and see the spawn protection. Make any edits you need to make.
