So i saved up around 1,000 for a new computer, and I love gaming such as Minecraft and whatnot (don't make fun) and i don't know a lot about computers. I'm also going to be a freshman so will need it for school work so i would like a fast effective computer. Does anyone have a recommended good gaming desktop? Also my brother knows a lot about this stuff and tells me he can build one, but i'm a little hesitant at that. Would it be better for him to build me one? Hes 26.

Your choice the second one has a Xeon with HyperThreading (HT) It's basically an unoverclockable I7 4770k
The first one has straight up 8 cores, There's also the difference between 290 and 970, Personally go with the Intel/Nvidia Build as Amd has failed me many times.

You are wasting your money unless you build one. Since you have $1k for a computer, I can assume it isn't just for the tower, it is for the monitor as well?
Skyler posted some okay builds, but both of them are pretty inefficient (like, you don't have a reason to own a $200 hard drive for gaming).
