Generally a person gives up on a game (any game) when the Interest is not keen Because the skills needed are not in the Players ability.
Becoming bored is more of a situation of either constant failure in actions, and/or inability to do the Puzzles most games employe.
"Lack of the feeling of Achievement".
Rarely the superior skills of the Player; the game being too easy.
A game like "Skyrim" is a wonderful combination of puzzle and ease of Play (and combat). It is prime on my list. It is easy going, lots of territory to explore many things and places to find, simple NPC (Non Player Controlled) characters conversations and tasks. Random deaths to complicate things, etc.
Think of a Game as a challenge, rather than something to just occupy time.
Understand what the Publisher is presenting, what you are supposed to do. Work on the skill(s) needed to accomplish the task at hand. Work on (thinking) how to solve the problem.
When you develop an interest in how to get things done you may find the Game(s) more absorbing.
Get a Dr. Pepper (or Coca-Cola) and a bag of Chips while you play the game, Pause whenever you feel "Lost" or "Overwhelmed", save frequently.
If it is a Tough Game, research game play Wiki's, or even watch some YouTube videos of how others do it. They do not always do it right, but it will give you clues.
ENJOY the game is the more important task. When it gets frustrating take a break.
