Yesterday I set up my own server for me and my friend to use. Today we played on it, but she couldn't see my skin and I couldn't see hers, we both just appear as steves. I could see my own skin no problem, and same for her, but not each others. How do we fix this problem? Is it something wrong with the server itself? I tried reuploading my skin to my minecraft profile through minecraft.net/profile, but even then she still could not see it.

Skin servers were probably down, happens when a massive update is coming, don't worry its normal.

If you don't have an online connection at the time you start up Minecraft or lose your online connection with their servers, you can lose the ability for others to see your skin… Which causes the game to load up the default skin (which is "Steve"). This tends to be a common & minor issue with servers.
You can log out & log back into the server, but if there's an issue between you, the server & Minecraft.net… You may just have to live with it for the moment.

Both the above posters are correct. That just happens from time to time when the skin servers go down. The skins should just magically work in the future when the skin server is online.
