Should I update my Java 64 Bit for Minecraft?

I NEVER go on the internet on my computer because I'm too paranoid about viruses/malware, i was wondering if it is still safe to play Minecraft online and offline with an outdated Java version.

Update your java. The java updates may have security patches in them, and 64bit java is better than 32bit, especially in Minecraft. You don't need to worry about malware or viruses if you get it strait from java http://www.java.com/...n64bit.xml

I still play with Java 6 because I've had horrible experiences with attempting to update Java in the past. There doesn't seem to be a huge need to update it.
