Should i get a gaming desktop or laptop?

I want a good computer for editing my YouTube videos and for playing minecraft on
i saw at best buy the cheapest gaming pc for around $500 and the cheapest gaming laptop for around $1000. What should i get and why are laptops expensiver then pc's
but the $500 pc has like 2 out of 5 stars should i still get it.

Definitely a desktop if you expect to be able to upgrade components in the future. Gaming laptops are expensive because it's difficult to build your own laptop. It's much easier to work with a desktop case to add components than it is to build a laptop. Ad the laptops are portable if there's a club of some kind in the area. Sound is a big part of gaming, and laptops just can't hold the type of speakers most gamers want. Just remember one thing…"You get exactly what you pay for!" Buy a cheaper gaming computer, and you'll be spending more money upgrading components.

I'm not sure if you need a PC for gaming if you want to play minecraft. PC for gaming it's when you're going to play stuff like Battlefield 3-4, Crysis 3 and so on. Concerning to editing videos, I think it'd better to buy a PC, because it's cheaper and it provides better perfomance as opposed to laptops. Video rendering is slow as hell on machines that don't have enough RAM, good video cards and etc. And again, I absolutely agree with Ryan, gaming laptops are very expensive, so if you don't have a tidy sum - it's better for you to buy a PC then.

If you want a gaming rig, Please stay away from retail stores like Best Buy. Customization is the only way to go.

DESKTOP. If you're using it for gaming or video editing, definitely desktop. Laptops were never made for that type of activity.

And to answer your second question, why are laptops more expensive that desktops.
The main reason would be because a laptop costs more to engineer because you have to fit the same amount of processing power from a desktop into a smaller space.

The components in a laptop are only a fraction of a size of the components in a desktop. Fitting those components with equivalent processing power into a smaller space requires more engineering to be done.

Laptops are expensive because they're portable. All depends on what you need/want.

You can get great specs for desktops at a cheaper price.

All laptops are mediocre for gaming, simply because their GPU must run on a battery. Any desktop videocard above $250 is superior to all gaming laptop GPUs in the planet, and those cards require power supplies that can deliver 500W or more.

I recommend building your own desktop, but $500 is too low, especially when the cheapest videocard for gaming should start at $120 or so.
