Why won't my minecraft server go online?

I had this same problem when i first started making servers. The easiest thing to do is just use LogMeIn Hamachi, open a network from there, give the network password to your friends (who also need to download Hamachi to use it), get the minecraft server.exe from the minecraft website ( I assume you did so), open the server program, then once your friends are in your Hamachi network and the server program is open, open the Minecraft sever selection and simply give your friends the IP it says on Hamachi. When you want to join your own server though instead of typing in your IP you type in "localhost" without the quotations.

The IP you listed is not the IP one would use to connect to your server, that is the default IP for a home router to be able to log in and edit settings. To find your actual IP addrsss, go to ipchicken.com and try the one listed there.
