What can be happening with my Minecraft server? It keeps getting hung up every once and a while with a lot of ram?

Ahh is used to get this problem while hosting my own servers. I have a few questions if you don't mind.

what version of minecraft are you playing with?
are you using a modded server?
is this a locally hosted server or a offsite server?
