Portforwarding vs hamachi?

So what is better for minecraft I just wanna know, becasue me and my frined use hamchi for his server adn it's laggy in the begging like ****, there's like a grace period for me where I can't do anything for like 30s, but other servers that use port forwarding(I asume)I don't have any problems, so what is better?
