Is it possible to see the map of a multiplayer minecraft server?

I'm trying to travel far from spawn on a new multiplayer minecraft server. I have the worst sense of direction in real life and apparently in-game as well. Even if I turn the coordinates on I end up going in circles in a small area. I don't have the resources to build a map so I'm wondering if there's something like admist that would let me see the map I'm in?
