How to use kits in minecraft hunger games?

I just started playing on a hunger games server and I'm trying to choose a kit. I already figured out that I can't use kits I haven't unlocked, but even available kits don't do anything.

I click on them to select them and a few other items show up that looks like I'm supposed to select them, but ultimately I can't click and drag anything into my slots. It won't let me use anything. I always end up starting with nothing but a compass no matter what I do.

What am I actually supposed to do to use a kit?

Type /hg kits, then the name of the kit.

Unless you mention what server, we really can't do anything about that. We don't know what server you are talking about. They are all different.
Try talking to the mods or admins on the server. They might be able to help you. If they have a forum, you might also want to look there.

Well if your on Hypixel, right click the bow and click the kit that you want.

PS: Usually they take a minute or two to get and you don't get them right away
