How to stop my minecraft server from lagging?

I go on a server called BarberCraft i love this server So much its my life but there's one problem it laggs hard whenever i go far in the game. I can't do anything i try to type /spawn so i can't lag anymore from how far i'm but it takes a long time. It probably takes 5 minutes for each letter please help me i need help really bad

You have to fill us in on more information… Is it low frame rate lag (Client side) or is it delay lag, like when you're doing /help it takes a while for things to show up. Cause if you're typing something and it takes a while for it to show on screen, that's client side.
