How to stop griefers from killing my MC Server?

I have just opened a new server on Minecraft. When griefers come on, they all demolish my server as soon as they get on, I put it to Adventure Mode but they still break candles and glass. Like on MCMagic, the blocks come back if they break them.

I kinda just started minecraft but i say you ban privileges (like gamemode or burning or flying)or ban them temporarily or permanently

Give them the BAN HAMMA or get a plugin. With most you can make it say "you do not have permission for this area" in all red when they try to grief. I don't have a plugin or any other knowledge but thats all i know
