Help setting up a minecraft server?

So I'm trying to set up a minecraft server for me and my one other friend to play on, I downloaded the server software and all that, I can connect and get into the server but my friend doesn't seem to be able to connect at all. The thing is I'm running a windows 7 Pc but my router is an Apple AirPort Extreme (Everyone else in my home uses mac) I believe I need to forward my port using 25565 but how exactly should I do this so my friend can connect, Thanks

You guys have to use a program called hamachi. You have to create a network on it and he has to join it. And if you haven't tried this yet do so, try putting down your firewall.

Ignore Joey, you don't HAVE to use hamachi.

First, you just need to type in ipconfig in terminal (or mac equivalent e.g. Ifconfig) and navigate to your defualt gateway in your browser, and get from there.
