Can't connect to Minecraft servers?

I'm trying to join a Minecraft server but whenever I click on it a message shows up saying

"Failed to log in: The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request."

Can someone tell me what I should do to fix this.

Try a different server if that works than its the server you were trying to join if its not restart you minecraft and even close the launvher and open it back up and try to play and if that doesn't work then play singleplayer for 30 minutes
