Been playing Minecraft pe for quite a while now, but I keep hearing the name 'Herobrine'.
I've looked up pictures of him, and he's just identical to Steve. But players seem to really want to 'meet him'.
What's the deal?
What or who is he?

He is a mythical character who has been created by mojang as a little bit of a joke. He's kind of like the god, not real, but people want to belive he is.
Herobrine was/is a joke made by the developers of minecraft. People insist that Herobrine is real and that he stalks you in game and mysteriously kills you now and again and blah blah, but Herobrine does not exist nor did he ever.
He is an easter egg Mojang 'added' to the game. In every update is says something along the lines of "Herobrine's ghost army removed" or just "Herobrine removed"
People say he goes into your single player survival maps and kills you. It's just a myth.
There's an actual story behind this myth. The creator of Minecraft "Notch" had a brother when he was younger and his brother died. The story behind herobrine is that Notch's brother is in the Minecraft Program and haunts certain files. I have heard rumors- but have no actual proof- that he deletes worlds of victim that look at him in the game. It's a little creepy…
The Glitch in the game was written in code as 1.334.HERO.4563.BRINE.34 and everyone now calls it herobrine for short. The rumor also states that if you acknowledge the "character" It will corrupt your world, build traps and haunt players.
Believe if you want to or dismiss it as a rumor, but now you at least know the story.
Herobrine is a practical joke that's taken on a life of its own. A player wrote a story where he encountered a mysterious entity building in his single-player world that then disappeared. (The account is written not unlike a Bigfoot encounter.)
It would have died out here, but eventually someone used it to troll people, and then it took off as an urban legend.
There's no Herobine, Notch has specifically stated that there's no Herobine in the game, and perusals of the game code back him up. This hasn't prevented moders from adding him as a mod, however, and it is a popular skin for trollers and griefers on multiplayer servers.
Like the person said below hes like a God in minecraft. He looks exactly like steve from minecraft (the original guy). Except he has glowing whit eyes. He there's also signs of him, like trees without leaves and stuff. But i'm almost positive they took him out. If you want to get him you can download a mod to get him.
He's actually just a glitch that follows the player around and does no harm, but it's really freaky and is like a mirror image. He breaks and hits things with his left arm and switches from right in front of you to right behind you randomly. He copies everything you do, has the same stuff in his hand as when you do but generally does not damage. He can't break stuff or hit stuff and is actually good company.
Herobrine is a Minecraft joke. It originally started when someone during the alpha times (or earlier?) claimed strange things happening in his sinleplayer world. Later he told that he saw a figure (Herobrine) at the edge of the fog (he used shortest render distance) who then disappeared in the fog when he tried to chase HIM. Soon other people started "seeing" Herobrine. Someone made an assumption that Herobrine could be Notch's brother. He asked Notch about it and he said that he had a brother but he's not with us anymore, which lead people thinking that Herobrine is a ghost that haunts the game. However Notch later stated that he never had a brother. There are two types of descriptions for Herobrine. One is a stalker that looks at you from far and the other is hostile version. Often signs for Herobrine "begin" in your world are trees shaved out of leaves, pyramids in water, long 2x2 tunnels in the side of a mountain lit with redstone torches and other odd cobblestone structures. Mojang uses Herobrine as a joke in updates often adding "-Removed Herobrine" to the end of the change log. It has been officially stated by Notch that Herobrine is fake. However there are some people still who really think that Herobrine exists in the game. Herobrine has been used in many Minecraft media. Like animations, short Minecraft movies and songs (such as HIM by Bobby Yarsulik and The Miner by AntVenom).
