I went to the website (minecraft.net) to try and buy the game from there but it said there was an error. I try to buy it as if i was buying it for myself and as a gift. Is there any other place i can buy it online? I don't want to buy it at a retail store.

I'm assuming you're buying it for the pc. There are currently no other websites to buy it. I would suggest using a different PC, (a friends, or neighbors) buying it there, downloading it onto a USB, and putting that onto your computer.

There isn't any other way to buy it online. The only way to is to buy it on a computer or buy a gift card for yourself at a retail store.
