National American Miss Pageant

So this year I want to so something completely out of my usual comfort-zone and we just so happened to get this letter from National American Miss saying I've been referred to them as a possible candidate and everything.

I've signed up for the orientation and now I'm thinking about what I will even do when I get there. I know a lot of girls who do pageants are people like cheerleaders and people in theater who have great stage presence; but alas, I'm a drummer in the marching band. I'm thinking about the talent portion which, I know, is optional, but I'd really like to play my drum. The only thing is that I don't know if that's acceptable or not. I saw a video saying how one girl had basketball dribbling as her talent, but that isn't nearly as loud as a snare drum. That's pretty much what I'm best at other than drawing, so that's all I really have to work with.

For anyone who has participated in a pageant before, it would mean the world to me if you could give me any advice as to what I should do, what I should say, and how I should act. I'm really not the most expected candidate(being a sarcastic, Minecraft-playing drummer), so I'm really working with nothing right now.

Beware! I'm not talking about this organisation, for legal reason, but there are certainly very many using the same sort of approach. Of course, you weren't referred to them: they bought your name, age and address or phone number from someone who sells such lists.
What generally happens with this sort of deal is that you end up spending far more than you originally thought, and no matter how many semifinals and regional superpageants you go to, all you gain is being put on the list of scammy "agents" and "casting directors".
You will meet all sorts of people who love you to pieces and promise you the world, if you have enough 'commitment' to spend more dollars on more 'necessary' things. You will go on, with lots of chances to pay money, and not much to show for it, until eventually you say that's it, I can't afford more, please use all that stuff to get me work. Then your agent leaves the firm, or the country; or he's sick, or at the Oscars. You can't reach him, and eventually the number either goes dead or rings out.

With your collection of street smarts, I can't imagine you'll be dragged down that ugly path. All these companies that seem to be answering a dream are only in it for your cash. They have no conscience, and they are Very Good at persuading people. It's what they do for a living. Almost anything would be a more satisfying challenge, and a more useful way of spending the money.
