I did everything to get my mod (Too Many Items). I downloaded Java, Forge, and got the 1.8 TMI mod for Forge. When I opened my Minecraft with Forge enabled, the mod wasn't there. The.jar files should have a java icon, but instead has a notepad icon.
Why won't my Minecraft mods load up even though I did every step correctly?

I need your mod in the mods folder press the home button on your computer and press r at the same time then do %appdata% and got to minecraft then mods then have the mod in there
