Minecraft on my school computer?

I was wondering if it would be smart to get minecraft on my school computer that I will be useing for the next 5 years. I just want to have enough space for my school stuff. Also if I do get it on my computer, what are your thoughts on mods?

You will need to be able to install Java if you do not have it yet. If it is 64-bit Windows you may need to manually install 64-bit Java, because the default 32-bit Internet Explorer typically only installs 32-bit Java.

I guess how much space minecraft takes depends upon how many worlds you have and whether you use the technic laucher for other modpacks. I mostly run Linux and with a number of worlds my.minecraft directory is less than 1 GB and my.technic directory is 1.3 GB (mostly from running tekkit modpack).

The minimum that I run minecraft on is a 1 GHz 2 core 10.1" tablet PC w/2 GB RAM (with detachable keyboard and wireless mouse) which has Win7 Pro a 32 GB SSD (minecraft runs a little better from Linux booted from SD card on that slow computer).
