I have tried to install it over and over, with no result. I'm using forge and I'm running Mavericks. If there's another mod that I need, please include a link.

If you're attemping to install a mod and it isn't working, then it can be one of two problems:
1. You're doing it wrong.
You may have made a mistake, installed the wrong files, didn't install the correct files, etc. You may need to install additional files, i.e. ModLoader or Forge
2. The mod or your client is outdated.
The mod might not match the same version as your client. The latest version of Minecraft is 1.7.4. Many mods still haven't updated for the new version, and you'll just have to wait.
While this doesn't specifically apply to your situation, it's almost certain this covers it. Either with the mod itself or Forge. I recommend downloading the Magic Launcher, allowing you to just select files and it will automatically install them to your client. The Magic Launcher can be found below.
