How to spawn items in Minecraft 1.7.2?

So I recently got Minecraft and it's version 1.7.2, and I've seen some mods like "Too Many Items" so I can spawn items, however, I don't have the slightest clue as to installing it. Are there other ways to spawn items in-game on Minecraft 1.7.2? Btw this is for single player, not multiplayer. If anyone can help me install the "Too Many Items" mod or suggest any other ways to spawn items on Minecraft 1.7.2 sigleplayer, I'd be very grateful. Cheers, Ash.

One way is to be in creative mode /gamemode 1 and open your inventory and wow, look at that, you can give yourself anything. For a survival game I believe you have to have enable cheats enabled, not positive.

The second way is the /give command. /give 3 should give you something.

Yes there isa code to get items, and you don't need to go on creative for it. Here is the code (make sure cheats are active) /give <playername> <item id> <amount> <metadata>. This is what it would look like /give popcorndude13 264 64. The id 264 is for diamonds. Another version is /give popcorndude13 5 64 1. The id 5 is for wooden planks, the 64 is the amount given, and the 1 is to get spruce planks, 2 is for i think birch, 3 is for jungle, and leaving it blank gives oak. If you want to learn the item id's, In Game press F3 and H at the same time. Make sure you use your own username.

You can spawn items by useing the /give command if you won't more info look it up there's lots of sites that says how to use it and if you won't to spawn mobs you can use /summon command
