I have windows 8, which I think might be the problem.

Also, if the problem is with my graphics drivers, how do I get a new updated one?

This is difficult. The problem is most likely with your graphics card drivers. This is a known error, you can find it's documentation along with graphics driver installation tutorials here:

Minecraft uses an obscure binding with OpenGL that is growing less and less supported overtime called LWJGL. I've done a fair amount of programming in it, and despite it's easy-to-use nature, it crashes randomly on certain graphics cards and won't run on others. Note that your graphics card may be incompatible or not powerful enough to run Minecraft. This is a known error in Minecraft and one that needs to be addressed.
