I've tried pushing and drawing them into the portal, but they just sit in its wake and don't teleport. Is this even available on the console version yet? No info online AT ALL!

I don't think that that update is out yet for the 360 whenever you are able to push animals into the nether, but if you are on creative, you can just spawn them.
