Is Minecraft Forge Safe? If so, How do I properly install it?

I'm not that sure about getting Forge, because on of my friends said it screwed up his computer. I it is safe, how do I safely use it? Do I need certain computer storage?

System: 64-Bit
Edition: Windows 10

As long as you download it directly from the devs, it will be fine. Your friend probably installed it from a 3rd party site that bundled a few viruses with it. This: https://files.minecraftforge.net/...forge.net/ is the official site and the only one you should try to download it from.
