I can't run Minecraft 1.7.4?

My computer can't play anything past Minecraft 1.7.2. When I try tto play, it starts up but just crashes before it gets to the menu screen. Any help?

Completely remove it and reinstall. Search for the.minecraft file, and remove it. Then you can go the site and re-download it. Generally that fixes all issues for me.
