It's because you're using a stone pickaxe, to mine gold you must have an iron pickaxe or above.

And for diamonds too.
You also need a diamond pickaxe to mine obsidian.

To mine gold, you need an iron or diamond pickaxe; wood and stone pickaxes are too weak to mine gold or any other valuable ore.
