How to make a Nether portal on Minecraft?

I'm been trying to make one for the past 20 minutes. I know I have to make a 5 by 4 block thing with obsidian and then touch the inside with the flint and stone, but it doesn't work.

Did you build it upright? I tried making one horizontal and it didn't work. Also you need to right-click with the flint and steel. Make sure you are on survival mode… Might be one of those things that doesn't work on creative.

Think of my [] as a block of obsidian.

This is how you make it:

[][][][]
[]---[]
[]---[]
[]---[]
[][][][]

Then you right click the inside with a flint and steel in survival. You may have had it like:

[][][][][]
[]-----[]
[]-----[]
[][][][][]

which is wrong.
