So when I chose a name I wouldn't think it would matter because I didn't think I would play multiplayer so I chose a really crappy name and I want to change it I heard 1.8 update is going to let you is this true? And if you already can change your name how do I do it?

I don't believe this feature is implemented as of yet. Once it is you should be able to change it by logging in here:

Just make a new account all it does is change your name because minecraft save are connected to the minecraft saves itself and not the user
except for spawn sets, pets, and levels
and inventory items should be put in chests if you would like to keep them
