How to buy minecraft as a gift for someone?

And do you need a minecraft account to buy the gift, or do you need to make the account for the person youre buying it for?

If they're playing it on PS3 or Xbox 360 you could just buy Minecraft from any store that sells games.

Go to Minecraft.net, click get Minecraft, log in and select buy gift code. Then simply give the person the gift code for them to redeem on the same site.
