So i'm trying to figure out how the ip works because i was playing on minecraft and the owner was really rude. What he did to rulebreakers or from what he said he did, was he took their ip and sent them viruses. I left after he did that to the second person. So right now i just want to know if its possible to change my laptop's ip address
Your laptop's IP address is assigned by your ISP.
You can't change your IP address.
However, I'm extremely doubtful that this minecraft server owner is competent enough to send a virus.
Additionally, just using a half-decent antivirus program should negate any worries you have, in addition to just being a good idea in general
It does not work that way. You can't send someone viruses if you know their ip address. And the IP address the minecraft server sees is not the ip address of your laptop, it is the ip address of your modem. From there they have no way of knowing what computer you are using and they have no way to get past the modem through the router to your laptop. It just doesn't work that way.
They are lying through their teeth and do not know what they are talking about. Don't worry about it.
