That phrase has just rubbed me the wrong way ever since I heard it. I received a T-shirt as a gift that reads "I'm fairly certain "YOLO" is "Carpe Diem" for stupid people."
Loved it, thoughtful gift, the shirt fits me, but I just got to thinking…
My dad has a shirt that says "I went to Sacramento and all I got was this Lousy Girlie Man T-Shirt". I wonder how many readers will even get the reference, because it refers to a (now obscure) political headline from ten years ago. He still wears it, and it screams "dated."
I don't want to walk around sporting slogans from the previous decade. I'm too out-of-touch with the young'ns to have any idea whether or not this shirt is still socially relevant. Can I wear my YOLO shirt? If so, how much longer do you think I could get away with wearing it?
