I like to play Pokemon games such as diamond and pearl and black and white but when ever I start playing, I hear the fan on my computer spin faster and louder. The fan doesn't spin that hard when playing games such as minecraft and I can only remember it spinning that fast when playing games such as Skyrim. I didn't think a DS emulator could be that intensive on my desktop pc, which does have good specs for gaming and can play games such as Skyrim and GTA IV with no problems. The fan spins at around 1700rpm when playing a ds emulator and cpu temps go as high as 63 degress celsius and video card can become quite hot at 55 to 60 degree celsius. I only see these temps when playing Skyrim or Gta IV. My computer has dust in it which I need to clean out. Could this be the reason or is it just because emulation requires more power to run on a pc? Also If I continue to keep playing DS emulation could it damaging in the long run?
Can NDS emulation damage a computer in the long run?
Emulators are hard on cpu's and regular games are hard on gpu's. I dout it will hurt your computer unless you have it overclocked. If it gets to hot it should just turn off. I dout it will ever reach that temp though.
Emulators are very complex pieces of software and require very large amounts of cpu cycles to run. (i mean you have software doing the same thing of real physical hardware O.O)
but the graphics load is not that much. It still requires a ton of gpu power for the graphical complexity of the games, but most pc games use many times more.
use canned air or an air compressor or blower vac to blow high pressure air into your laptops vents and exhausts. (while its off ofcourse)
this will get rid of dust build up in your pc. Dust retains heat and causes your computer to run hotter.
also maybe look into getting a laptop cooler. http://www.newegg.com/...6%24%24%24
the cooler your hardware runs, the better it is for the life of your hardware (but even at high temperatures hardware will still last longer then most people would keep one).
if you have newer more modern hardware, running cooler may allow to hit higher turbo boost on cpu and gpu/igpu, meaning more performance.
running at high temps/voltages can lower life span of hardware to probably like 10-15 years rather then 20+ years.
60C isn't that high for most cpus now days. Most laptops have like 80-100C tjunctions.
