Are there any Chromebooks that will allow you to play Minecraft without installing extra stuff?

You will want to find a Chromebook that has Android support. Android Authority has a list of Chromebooks that has this support officially ("Stable" channel), in beta testing & planned at

You'll probably want to stick to the list that has official support to minimize headaches.

From there, you just need to visit the Google Play Store & purchase Minecraft (formerly "Portable Edition"), if you haven't already. It's hard to say if the Chromebook you pick is compatible with the Android version, as the Play Store takes a "trial by fire" approach… Where it will only tell you if some or all of the devices associated with your account is compatible prior to purchase.

This way, you'll be able to play with anybody who's running on the Bedrock Engine (XBox One, Windows 10, Nintendo Switch & Mobile) of Minecraft. You won't be able to play the Java Edition, as Chromebook doesn't have Java support (& it's unlikely have add that support), so don't expect to play the original version.
