Our 3 year old Apple iMac is… Really really slow. The internet is my last resort (I'm asking this on my PHONE). It's a shared computer, with my four-person family. It's been giving us 'startup disk is almost full' messages for a month or so. So we bought an external hard drive (3 terabytes - plenty), and set it up… Sort of. Because of various reasons including my brother's obsession with minecraft, I never got the chance to clean up the 500GB startup disk, transfer files, etcetera. The disk is now completely full, so full that the computer is too slow to log on. There's a backup on the external hard drive, but now the computer is literally too full to clean up. Is there anything I could possibly do to clean it out or will we have to buy a new computer?
Apple iMac is screwed. Maybe?
Before I start. I'm not a fan of M$, Google or Mac, I don't/won't use any of them.
Things you can do,
(1) buy bigger internal hard drive and install that,
(2) copy unwanted/unused files to your 3 TB external hard drive. Notice I said Copy. Once copid you compare the files size on the hard drive, to to ones on the external drive to make sure they are the same size, if ok
(3) delete the copid files. Making room on the drive,
(4) a computer is a computer
(5) an operating system is an operating system, some capable of running on a Mac, beside OS/x
Mac and windows users think there are only two operating system in the world. Which are Windows and Mac, The fact is there are other Linux operating systems that are Free, Faster, Superior and far more Advanced, They are up2date June 2014, Android and Chrome are two of them
With Linux you can make a live system boot up usb flash/jump drive. Boot your Mac up with it and play with the operaing system and software. You can also get on the net with it. If the wireless don't work then use a cable.
