My friend has minecraft pe and was able to change his username. But now all of a sudden what he put as the username won't erase he has no mods or a skin on it. His phone also has shattered.

If your friend has a premium Minecraft his username should be able to get changed once every month, so he better wait the 30 days thing. If it is in pirate mc try to re-download it.
