PS3 OR XBOX 360 for a new gamer?

This is going to be pretty long with some probably unneeded information, but whatever.

I know this argument has been made way too many times, but as someone who has only had a Nintendo 3DS and is new to the whole console/gaming world which would be best? I'm not asking about PS4 or XBOX One mostly because they are at a price I'm not willing to pay right now, especially with it being my first big console. I know that for XBOX to play online you have to pay around $50 a year(?) and then the Play Station has free online gaming up to a point(?) As for games that I'm interested in I'd like to play Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy, COD, Minecraft, GTA, and etc. Even though Titanfall looks awesome I'm not buying an XBOX One just to play it.

I'm really iffy on this as well. My dad has always been a PC gamer (LOTRO, WoW, Ultima Online) and my mom does really nothing to do with gaming so they never wanted to get me any consoles. While I'm in school and working a part time job, I pay for my own technology but I'm sure they will think it's a complete waste. (Even though my dad dropped a lot of money on his custom Alienware computer and TV for a computer screen.) Also, I'm not even sure where I'd put the console because I don't even have a TV that can be used with anything really. Anyone have any ideas on how to convince them to letting me purchase one?

PC is perfect is any single way, there's no cons, and the games are 100% free. You feel like playing Assassins Creed, it came out two days after release on the internet to download for free, no price to pay lad.

PS3 online is free period. You NEVER have to pay. And Xbox online is $60 btw. And PS3 has better games, every knows this now. Mainly exclusives. The Last Of us, Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, God of war, etc.

I've never liked PC gaming, but this gen there's really no reason not to. Steam's got big picture mode, most computers have HDMI output, and for just a bit more than PS3 or Xbox you can get a more powerful, upgradeable PC.

But if the choices are strictly PS3 and Xbox, go PS3. I was an xbox fan last gen, but they make shoddy hardware and try to milk their fanbase for every dime they can.

Look Oz is upto you which console you want but I will say you should go with PC. You can get an entry level PC at around 300-500 usd. You can play games with better graphics and games are cheaper, there are steam sales where you can buy games at a lower price. Overall, its good in the long run. If you really want to buy a console, you should get a PS3, you can play games online for free and it is also having exclusives like The Last of Us, Infamous, Uncharted and many others. And you MAY buy a Playstation Plus Membership, its around 50 usd and you get many discounts and free games and access to beta.

So, If you can, buy a PC. Else go with a PS3

First a few pieces of advice. One, don't worry about where you'll put it, any TV with basic a/v hookups will work fine. Resolution and picture quality may suffer on an older TV, but it'll still work. 2 things about online, first XBOX Live is $60 a year, not $50. Second, there's a reason people are willing to pay that. It seems to be PlayStation's fate that their network will be hacked and crash like every other week. Also, anything even remotely decent or worth having on PlayStation requires PS Plus. I'm not trying to sell you on XBOX here, so much as I'm trying to say that XBOX has better online and if that's a factor for you, then it is a push towards XBOX. Meanwhile PlayStation systems are more reliable, always have been, probably always will be. Yeah Microsoft fixed their biggest problems and increased reliability, PlayStation systems are simply more reliable. PlayStation 3 also has cross play with the Vita and if you should get both, and maybe later on get a PS4 the Vita can even remote play many PS4 games, but that's something to think about later as you say the price is too much. And I agree. Regardless of which system you get, make sure you get one with a hard drive. Too many reasons as to why, but trust me, you want one with a hard ddrive. Most all the games you seem to like are available for both, so that ain't much of a factor for you, is it? Find out what most of your friends have and get that system. Then you can game together. That's what decides it for most. If you're just playing by yourself, then I'd get whichever ones has the most exclusives that appeal to you. There's no wrong answer here. Both are great. It's largely personal preference and opinion.
