How to dye leather armor in Minecraft?

I just bought Minecraft for Xbox 360 and I can't figure out how to dye leather armor or wool. I've been told to press X while hovering the dye over the item but that doesn't work. I haven't updated the game because I don't gave a live account so could that be why I can't dye anything?

I don't think you can dye armor in the Xbox version, it is only possible in the PC version. Pretty sure you can dye wool though, maybe only in creative mode. You can do ALOT more in the PC version than on Xbox 360 or Playstation 3
