Does the Minecraft Better Together Update work at all?

Whenever I try to connect to a friends world, xbox to xbox, I get the message "Outdated Server", I've tried this on both a new world, and an old world synced from the older Xbox Minecraft? How can I fix this? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.
