Do I have to be online to choose a seed on Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition?

I have tried multiple times but it does not seem to work. I never get the expected results. I'm going to feel stupid if I find out that I do. :/
Feel free to make it happen though. I would like to know.

The seed may generate a world differently if the seed is from a previous version of Minecraft.
