So I'm starting to produce a survival game. My goal is to make in completely different from games like Minecraft or Rust. They are way overdone in my opinion. I want it more to be about survival then building. I want it to be a game where you have to survive as long as you can by hunting, cooking food, taking water and boiling it to make it safe to drink, building fires, etc. I want it to basically be a survive as long as you can and when you die, you have to start over. What kinds of things would you like to see in a game like this?
What would you like to see in a survival game?
Well, firstly it would be good to have a simple building type feature, nothing like minecraft, just a small shack, or somethin' along those lines made out of logs or twigs. It would also be cool to add in some form of Character creation type thing, and add in a form of skill system to watch your character adapt and grow, nothing like "Animals now grow a bright orange color to make it easier to spot". Something more along the lines of getting stronger / faster etc so you could climb longer (fatigue system where you can only climb for so long?) and other things like that. Also, would be cool to have a small side story, like others having been there on that island or in that forest or wherever you set the players that give you tips, or ancient buildings you can explore for fun. Somethin' along those lines. And lastly, Hunger, thirst, and sleep would be cool. Just some small ideas, hope they help, but either way, Good luck and have fun! Look forward to seeing how it turns out!
My idea is sort of coming from Sims: Castaway Stories. You can create and customize your own player, choose an area to begin your survival, gather materials like berries from bushes or rotten logs, and some chance cards (a 50/50 possibility of an event). Some chance cards should be like a hurricane, some deadly disease, or just anything you'd like. I'm also starting to think of Virtual Villagers. There's some chance cards that sometimes give my villagers an abundance of food, while other cards can kill my villagers. And if you want to, you could put a difficulty level. For gameplay: just don't make it so the player has to strike a pig 4 or 5 times to get perfectly chopped, raw meat.
