It's been forever since i played last time and i heard there's a new update and i want to update my minecraft but as soon as i open minecraft i can't play it because apparently there's a java problem.

but i've already downloaded and installed the lastest java version from java.com
still the problem continue to exist.
what am i missing?

It is the current version and the only one offered from the official Java web site (java.com).
While Minecraft will running with earlier versions, there's a major bug in them that leaves them open to hackers. So Java is deliberately disable and uninstalling early versions on people's PC to protect them.
Go to java.com and download the latest version from there. There should resolve all your Java issues.
(If it does not, they also offer a link for uninstalling earlier versions of Java as the early you listed is mot often causes by having multiple versions of Java that are conflicting with each other.)
