What could have happened to make it stop turning on?

One day, 2 years ago, I had a Toshiba Satellite C… Something. I don't remember.

One day, I went to turn it on and go do whatever I did, like play games such as Empire total war or Minecraft, as I did very often on it. It didn't turn on. All there was was an indicator light of it being on, but there was no sound, no response, nothing but an indicator light.

I did everything common sense and the internet told me to do that day. Nothing worked. If I remember correctly, it worked fine before that. The A/C adapter worked fine, as we tried it on another laptop. Nothing was wrong with the electrical either.

It just stopped doing anything. So, again, what could have caused this in case it happens again to another computer one day?

Doing this makes sure computer is getting sustained power and holding power button while laptop battery is out cleares all temporary ram giving the computer enough ram to be able to start.

We assume the laptop never started working again, if it did it may have temporarily overheated. A permanently dead computer is usually caused by a motherboard failure or CPU failure. Anything else would allow the computer to at least POST and give an error message. Apart from running the laptop according to the manufacturers specifications i.e. Not on the bed clothes there's little you can do.
