Long story short, I did a clean up of my computer some months ago and I didn't reapply thermal paste between the CPU and cooler. But now, after 4 months, I'm getting very high readings that my CPU is overheating and games like Minecraft would lag pretty bad while the computer would also give out a blank screen.
What are the signs of a fried CPU?
Try cleaning and applying fresh thermal compound. Just enough to spread… Too much can be as bad as not enough. Check that there's no air flow problem in the case, and that all fans are operating properly.
I don't know what the certified techs do, but I don't remove the CPU fan when dusting. I just blow out the dust with canned air (or an oil-free compressor, but I don't have one of those at home.) Releasing and resetting the spring-loaded pins bothers me with thoughts about strain damage to PC board traces.
Your CPU is NOT fried!
If it was, it would simply not even start…
Take it off, and apply thermal paste. What do you think there was some before?
The way processors are working nowadays, heat evacuation is CAPITAL!
Try to get an aftermarket cooler.
