I'm looking for games to play that will make me feel alone and isolated.
What are the best video games to play if I want to feel isolated?
Hmm… This is a pretty tough order, but think I have a few gems for you…
The best game to fit this would be Out There: Ω Edition ( http://omega.outtheregame.com/ -- http://store.steampowered.com/...pp/334420/ ) for mobile & PC ($14 for combo, $10 for PC, $5.50 for mobile). The story / premise is that you're originally making the trek from Earth to Jupiter in suspended animation. HOWEVER, something happened that kept you suspended animation for a lot longer than anticipated & you're lost adrift "Out There" in space. You (& ONLY YOU) must hop from star system to star system & from planet to planet scraping up supplies & struggling to maintain resources & equipment on your attempt back home.
The game doesn't have any combat… Minimal "alien interaction" (as you may find alien civilizations, but contact & communications with them will be VERY limited) & the constant struggle of managing resources to keep your venture home alive. It can be stressful in a depressing, isolated way… ESPECIALLY when you start getting dangerously low on resources since a few poor choices or actions could spell your doom. I've gotten depressed in a run when I've been mathematically screwed by the game where any action I did was considered a "desperate attempt" (where it's literally life or death for that action & things are heavily against you at that point) & I needed at least 2 successful attempts for a chance of recovery.
Very action must be carefully taken as there's a serious risk of failure… But a potential of success. Do you brave this challenge?
Games that are considered "Walking Simulators" (Dear Esther, Gone Home, Stanley Parable, The Beginner's Guide, ect.) may provide some level of isolation… But it may not be something in said core.
Some Puzzle Adventure games like Myst & The Witness tend to have that isolation feeling, but your curiosity & wonder of the places you're exploring tend to be a more dominate by design. The Metroid series tends to work a bit with isolation since it's only you (as Samus Aran) versus an unknown & potentially hostile terrain… But still takes a back seat to other emotions / feelings.
Games that can have isolation potential optionally, but have difficulty doing so are Minecraft / Survival games… Minecraft, Terraria & Starbound does TEMPORARILY places you in an isolated state with nobody around where you must use what's around you to build a shelter, protect yourself from the hostile monsters & collect resources to survive… HOWEVER, the discovery of villages & other friendly NPC's tend to kill this feeling (assuming you note where they're located & know how to return to said place).
I hope this helps provide you some idea to work with… Again, I heavily recommend give Out There a try as it's seriously the best game I know that successfully provides the feeling of isolation. Sims 3 and Sims 4
You will create your own world with Sims that are who you what them to be

No Man's Sky
This War of Mine "SCP: Containment breach" has you trying to escape a facility full of monsters and armed guards. The main character is unarmed, so he's pretty isolated during the game. Don't Starve

You should also resort to Skyrim or Fallout 4, both really good single player games. G 007
