Was this person being rude to us?

Me and my friend were at the mall we're both teen guys. We went into this store and they sell makeup this lady stopped my friend and said
Lady: Hey (female pronoun) would you like to try a sample of (makeup brand) I think it would look lovely on you
My friend: Um excuse me but I'm not a girl
She just looked mixed up why would she refer to my friend as a female if he's a boy? He was wearing a minecraft shirt and a beanie he has longish hair but not as long as some girls. This happens alot in this store we go to they always mistake him as a girl. He wanted a new beanie so he bought one and as we were checking out the cashier said this to him
Cashier: Over here (female pronoun)
No one else was in line my friend looked ticked off and just walked over
Cashier: Did you find everything you needed today (female pronoun)?
My friend: I'm not a girl and if anybody else in your store refers to me as one I'm never coming back here I'm a guy not a female
The cashier then had an attitude with my friend. Were those people being rude to him?

BQ: What should he have done?

I think they both thought your friend was a girl so no they weren't intentionally rude.

Honestly, does he look like a girl? Longish hair and depending on his facial features… Some guys don't have an obvious masculine look about them, just as some girls don't look overly feminine. Sometimes it really is hard to tell from a glance. It's probably an honest mistake on their part - you may be in that store often, but so are a lot of other people. The cashier probably appeared to have "an attitude" because they were embarrassed at their mistake.

These people are a bit clueless for consistently confusing your friend for a female. And it's understandable he would be frustrated by this repeated mistake. But he took all the pent-up frustration and unleashed it on someone who had only made the mistake once. That was a little unfair. What he should have done was ask to speak to a manager, explained the situation, and asked them to change their habits (ie, saying "Next customer please" instead of "over here miss").

Give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they were just clueless, not rude.

By the way, Miss and Mister are nouns or proper nouns, not pronouns.

Probably getting a visit from her auntie flo

Is this a serious question? How about this; tell your 'friend' to dress like a guy. Don't blame people for being rude, as he must really look like a girl for people to keep making that mistake. Threatening to never come back is probably doing them a favor, since you didn't buy anything.
