What do I do I can't transfer files to ftp cafe for android device

So I have a Minecraft server and I logged in to it yesterday on ftp. I was using my phone (Sony xperia m) and went on android market and downloaded ftp cafe. I wanted to upload a.jar file from my downloads to the server but it always says failed check permissions
On every ftp client I've downloaded on my phone it says failed. I tried to upload on an online ftp and it says upload has failed. What do I do to fix this? How do I change permissions of a downloaded file?

Are you properly configuring the ftp client for your username and password on the server?

I use AndFTP, but I primarily transfer files to/from Linux, so I generally use more secure sftp (related to ssh) instead of regular ftp (ftp is not encrypted like sftp is).
