Help: I was playing minecraft on a server called MineSuperior. I was accused of hacking so one of the staff asked me to download an app called any-desk and give them permissions. Until I had given them full permission I had no Idea what this app was for until he started moving my mouse around and clicking on things. This is illegal is it not? You can't take over someone's computer without getting full consent form the person.
MY computer was illegaly searched?
You downloaded the app which gives them permission.
You gave consent when you downloaded the app. It's a tricky area of the law, the younger generation doesn't get the education you need for contracts and torts. If somebody says "Hey, let me in" and you let them in, thats implied consent.
You gave them permission
Don't trust them if they tell you to download anything. If you have concerns, tell the mods or the server creator. Go on another server if it gets bad.
You gave them permission by following their directions. If you didn't trust them you shouldn't have downloaded the application, let alone give them access.
Chances are, "they" weren't really from the server, but were just some scammer looking for a sucker willing to give over access to their computer so the scammer could download your personal files and other data, such as passwords, email, etc.
There's a loophole here, but it prob'ly wasn't an actual Admin from the server company anyway.
The loophole is that if You either are not the legal owner of the laptop (Mommy & Daddy bought it, You just use it) or if You are a minor, You are not legally ALLOWED to give anybody permisiion to take over the controls as a remote User.
You MAY be able to pursue legal action against the server company because they didn't ask if You are the computer's owner before they gave You instructions to allow them in.
If You get a decent settlement - pass me some Love.
You gave them permission, you said so yourself. That's consent.
You should take it to a best buy or a computer shop, tell them what happened and hope they can fix it
next time be more cautious and don't trust anything a random person over the internet tells you to do, especially when youre accused of doing something you know you didn't do
One of WHAT "staff"?
sounds more to me like you just been hacked - (but you did the hacking yourself)
you just downloaded an app and let somebody run it- (presumably they did it remotely?)
for all you (or I) know that app has put a key logger on your computer that will send them a copy of every keystroke you make
My advice is - don't do anything with the computer until you have taken it to a GOOD pc repair shop and had it scanned for malware (especially key loggers)
(Virus checkers aint any good- cost the app is a bone fide program - it just compiles the data than sends it via email)
The most they should have done is searched the .minecraft folder and or look for file extensions used with ghost clients like vape. Or go to your browser to see if you had searched any websites that give cheats. It isn't illegal as long as you consented, you said you allowed them to install a program which allowed a admin remote control to your computer. I would have tried to get one of them on discord and allow them to see my screen but not give control so then they can tell me where to search, or join.me. If they searched other folders then i would get in contact with a server admin and complain.
