How do I make a unraidable base and set up a successful faction?

No base is unraidable but you can make it hard to get into.
You could make a base in the sky as high up as possible, make it in one square of claimed faction territory out of obsidian blocks.
Then claim the area around, dashes being the claimed area, - being the base.

Cover the whole building completely over with water so it can't be tnted. Make sure there's no way up except using /home or /f home. This base will be unraidable unless someone claims over your faction land.
You could do the same for an underground base. Never build on normal level as people find your base way too easy and then your stuff will be gone forever. Be sure to hide a chest filled with your most precious items behind a trap door so even if the base gets raided, maybe they won't find the other chest.
I always put diamonds, saddles, horse Armour, etc. In a secret chest and no one ever finds it.
